Project

One of the most severe problems of the target group is insufficient financial means, which significantly reduces the quality of life of these families.

Guardians that are members of LFFS have comparatively low income due to both the small remuneration and children costs (guardians only receive EUR 45.53 for childcare), therefore alternative options should be looked at in order to deal with the problems related to poverty and social exclusion. There are situations when it is indeed impossible for a family to increase its income. Therefore it is important to become aware of the resources available free of charge, for instance, second-hand items and cooperation among guardians.

Project activities include two mutually related directions: 1) Promotion of cooperation initiatives among residents: and 2) Raising awareness of a sustainable life-style by promoting rational use of available resources.

The following activities will be organized within the framework of the project:

1) Three creative workshops in Riga in order to encourage the recycling of old household items and clothing into new household items and clothing;

2) A four-day camp at Ķoņu Mill, within the framework of which it will be possible to try out sustainable life-style models, for instance, waste sorting, “keeping one’s environment tidy” campaigns, use of locally grown produce, and creative workshops.
